The Madam La La Bronzing Ball is a quirky little product with a lot of punch. Designed to work with a wide range of skin tones it is the kind of quick fix that is a must have multi purpose product that will change your makeup and tanning game.

On first inspection we see a small pot with a clear lid revealing a warm, golden toned cream that is aesthetically pleasing. Taking off the lid we are greeted with the light perfume of coconut, strong enough to be noticed but not overpowering it does make you think tropical climes which given the tanning properties is an appropriate and welcome touch that makes the Bronzing Ball a definite must for fast and easy tanning with a touch of the tropics.

Testing the product is easy, the ball shape allows you to swipe the colour directly onto the skin with ease and it blends smoothly creating a warm even tan where applied. Minimal fuss and maximum impact when you build the colour up through layering.

From a media artist perspective this is a great little item to slip into a working kit for shoots where a touch of bronze is required or you are working TV/film/fashion projects it can be a major plus for the continuity side, quickly touching up a tan on a shoot or sculpting a models face with a few swipes of this beautiful cream verses heavy powders or ashy creams, adding depth and warmth to the face without hassle. Lola Chubby Cream Lipstick Pencil

I haven’t written about Lola makeup for a while and when I spotted the new chubby cream lipstick pencil I knew it was long overdue that I did, after all, they are a major part of my kit essentials for my private and media/fashion clients. Which I will touch on in this piece.

With 4 shades available, the colours are what I would term staples of a working kit or in a broader sense “wearable” colours that most people will reach for, something Lola makeup is incredibly good. Yes they are a staple of the professional fashion arena in Europe (sponsor of Spain’s next top model and the former UK top model), they have become somewhat of a go to brand for the bridal sector as well with their formulations, colour spectrum and of course fashion credentials being top amongst the reasons.

The major advantages of the new lipstick pencil (as outlined below) are all hall marks of the company who pride themselves on their cruelty free and vegan status.

Known for their fashion forward cosmetics line they are as mentioned, a bridal makeup standard, working with a variety of high end bridal shows and becoming the go to makeup line for this market. As someone who appreciates and values a good lipstick pencil for its ease of use, as a professional they can be slipped easily into a set bag for quick touch ups without the mess and hassle, although if I do use a lipstick you can guess who’s lip brush is the one sitting in my kit for touch ups especially when I apply liquid lipstick I like the precision of the two options that Lola presents.

*On a side note Lola does have one of the best lip brushes I have ever used and their colourless universal powder is one of my top 5 products.

Shining Boy BB Cream

Shining boy is a brand I found by sheer chance and it falls into that category of quirky and outwith my norm for male grooming but this does not detract from the company in any shape or form. While many say that makeup is universal there is still a degree of stigma attached to men buying makeup that they are working to take away with their quirky concepts.

For those taking their first steps into the world of makeup as a boy/man or just looking for something that will be quick, simple and easy to use then a BB cream is generally a good starting point. With the Shining boy BB cream, its targeted specifically at men and boys with a view to making clean skin a quicker process and creates a gateway to experimentation with the wider range of their cosmetics (in particular the eye shadow palettes).

The silver tone of the packaging and overall feel is standard and would not look out of place in a gym bag as it resembles a moisturiser or a post shave balm. The actual product has all the hallmarks of a premium BB cream (BB standing for Beauty balm) in that it offers an all encompassing product with skincare, concealer and light coverage that will in essence give the skin a fresh, rested look. Available in two shades of light and wheatish (medium/tan). Like many BB creams it is still advisable to use a powder to set although it is relatively long wearing depending on your own skin type and texture. The ingredients overall do have all the qualities I would expect and the added bonus of being waterproof making it an ideal addition to a summer regime.

The rest of the shining boy range is more about fun and experimentation with vibrant colour palettes and a more whimsical sense of playfulness but it is the BB cream that does stand out in the range from a grooming perspective as its designed to be easy to use and stands as a reminder that grooming (in the social media age) is an important factor for the well dressed gent or artistically minded soul who wants to be seen in the best possible light.

*A quick google search on the Shining Boy brand is enlightening and offers an interesting perspective on the range but in all honesty it doesn’t detract from the company for me it just allows a little insight into the company and the nearest competitors in terms of look and ingredients (not to mention pricing)

Bustoire Lingerie comes to Scotland

The inspiration for Bustoire began whilst on a lingerie shopping trip in Cambridge in the UK with a friend. My friend, who has a small cup size, had her pick of lingerie and nightwear in every shop we entered. When it came to finding nightwear to fit me I couldn’t find anything that fit a large cup size and was in natural fabrics like silk satin or chiffon. They simply didn’t exist.

Designed to meet the needs of the curvy, Bustoire has become a staple of the market with its simple philosophy of a bigger cup size doesn’t mean your plus size or that you don’t deserve to feel beautiful and glamorous.

International Fashion Designers Exhibiting In a New Marleybone Popup Show

This May sees a unique opportunity to see and buy new designs from international designers at a new pop-up shop in Marylebone, London. The event on 13-26 May is organised by ‘Silk Road Fashion in London’ and ‘Adam and Alice’ brands.

With Creative director JamesC joining them on the 14th of May as head of makeup for a multi designer catwalk segment, we are really excited about the prospects of the show and what is to come from it. We are already prepping a range of new designs for future projects and working out potential marketing avenues to support the show.

The term silk road in and of itself is really clever and has its roots in trade roads and travel which is really appropriate given the upcoming event which is designed as a showcase. The event is designed to mimic the bizarre’s of the past where people of all cultures and creeds would gather to meet and greet, see friends, do business and the find the latest fashions. Seeing the combination of the Silk Road team and of course Adam and Alice is fantastic and will open the doors to a wide range of creative opportunities for artists across the board and as a makeup artist and creative team we are really excited to be a part of this.

As a networking opportunity this is an amazing place to be and over the run there will be a variety of small shows, open days for the public, guest speakers and lectures all based around the fashion world.

The leading lights behind this show Adam and Alice and The Silk Road Fashion in London team have put together a stellar itinerary and we are really excited to be a part of this.

My Ideal Destination and KitKase My Ideal Package

Something I have been putting off is travelling, with various personal, professional and financial restraints on my time I really felt that it was for the best that I stick to one place and spot for a while but as you can imagine now that I am a little freer on the time front the urge to travel has started to make me feel the need to move again. Yes the weather is improving here in Scotland but I do miss South Asia and for work I am really beginning to think its time to move on.

The Road Less Travelled

What does have to do with My Ideal Destination and KitKase you ask? Well its simple. I love the level of service that the Ideal destination team brings and when it comes to luggage no one is better than KitKase to help pack my gear and take to the road again.

A major part of the appeal of My Ideal Destination is there concierge service, for those unfamiliar with this and having not travelled for business as much as I have done over the years, there are some major plus points to this (and for anyone looking to take a break), the team are focused on customer service and for me that allows my mind to be set and focused on the task at hand; locations, meetings and business.
