The Advantage of Digital Media with HOD TV

HOD TV is a service that I find myself fully behind, as a huge fan of horror and thriller and with plans to create work around this in 2020, this is something I can see being a positive move and the team have made huge strides in a short time giving the market something fresh (and a little dark) that will change how we view indie film. From a (lost) creative stance this is a perfect avenue for us to explore.

Part of this will be taking our partner concept of The Lost Creatives forward and setting things in motion with our other partners (more on this soon). Our primary focus will be on horror and thriller projects for commercial sale.

There is something about being scared that really appeals to people and the team behind HOD TV really tapped into this with a kind of glee and business savvy that I can appreciate and it has opened my eyes to the potential of being a part of the film industry again this time on my own terms as a filmmaker and makeup artist. Moving forward we are not just looking at the potential of this market for ourselves but for our fellow artists and creators.

Madame La La Bronzing Ball

The Madam La La Bronzing Ball is a quirky little product with a lot of punch. Designed to work with a wide range of skin tones it is the kind of quick fix that is a must have multi purpose product that will change your makeup and tanning game.

On first inspection we see a small pot with a clear lid revealing a warm, golden toned cream that is aesthetically pleasing. Taking off the lid we are greeted with the light perfume of coconut, strong enough to be noticed but not overpowering it does make you think tropical climes which given the tanning properties is an appropriate and welcome touch that makes the Bronzing Ball a definite must for fast and easy tanning with a touch of the tropics.

Madame La La Bronzing Ball

Madame La La Bronzing Ball

“Bronzing Ball is a 180°colour cosmetics twist-up cream bronzer for a precise glide on instant bronze – no makeup brushes needed! Bronzing Ball achieves an easy year round bronzed glow in effortless strokes – one shade suits all. Infused with Vitamin E & Coco Water hydrating properties the luminous and glimmering shade with a 180° dome applicator is easy to use for bronzing, contouring and highlighting the cheeks, lips and eyes.”

Testing the product is easy, the ball shape allows you to swipe the colour directly onto the skin with ease and it blends smoothly creating a warm even tan where applied. Minimal fuss and maximum impact when you build the colour up through layering.

*This would be a great addition to a working kit for fashion artists or anyone in the wedding sector.

From a media artist perspective this is a great little item to slip into a working kit for shoots where a touch of bronze is required or you are working TV/film/fashion projects it can be a major plus for the continuity side, quickly touching up a tan on a shoot or sculpting a models face with a few swipes of this beautiful cream verses heavy powders or ashy creams, adding depth and warmth to the face without hassle. A welcome addition to the beauty world the company deserves plaudits and applause for their innovative beauty and tanning line.

Shining Boy BB Cream

Shining boy is a brand I found by sheer chance and it falls into that category of quirky and outwith my norm for male grooming but this does not detract from the company in any shape or form. While many say that makeup is universal there is still a degree of stigma attached to men buying makeup that they are working to take away with their quirky concepts.

shining boy makeup.jpg

For those taking their first steps into the world of makeup as a boy/man or just looking for something that will be quick, simple and easy to use then a BB cream is generally a good starting point. With the Shining boy BB cream, its targeted specifically at men and boys with a view to making clean skin a quicker process and creates a gateway to experimentation with the wider range of their cosmetics (in particular the eye shadow palettes).

The silver tone of the packaging and overall feel is standard and would not look out of place in a gym bag as it resembles a moisturiser or a post shave balm. The actual product has all the hallmarks of a premium BB cream (BB standing for Beauty balm) in that it offers an all encompassing product with skincare, concealer and light coverage that will in essence give the skin a fresh, rested look. Available in two shades of light and wheatish (medium/tan). Like many BB creams it is still advisable to use a powder to set although it is relatively long wearing depending on your own skin type and texture. The ingredients overall do have all the qualities I would expect and the added bonus of being waterproof making it an ideal addition to a summer regime.

The rest of the shining boy range is more about fun and experimentation with vibrant colour palettes and a more whimsical sense of playfulness but it is the BB cream that does stand out in the range from a grooming perspective as its designed to be easy to use and stands as a reminder that grooming (in the social media age) is an important factor for the well dressed gent or artistically minded soul who wants to be seen in the best possible light.

*A quick google search on the Shining Boy brand is enlightening and offers an interesting perspective on the range but in all honesty it doesn’t detract from the company for me it just allows a little insight into the company and the nearest competitors in terms of look and ingredients (not to mention pricing)

Explaining the Lost Boys

The Lost Boys as a concept has a dark heart, its a patchwork of different aspects from the darker side of the Peter Pan story to the current social and political atmosphere where we see people such as Milo Yiannopoulos who has talked openly about the disenfranchisement of young men over the last decade.

Abandoned spaces (image for illustrative purposes only)

Abandoned spaces (image for illustrative purposes only)

Melding these elements together The Lost Boys became a sort of tongue in cheek reference to the way men are viewed and takes some of the “boy who never grew up” stories and expand on them with a touch of the grunge movement, American Gothic and the subversion of masculinity.

The images themselves will be built around derelict buildings, waste ground and a fractured symbolism of nature. Each model will have his own story that will hint at both the inspiration of Pans Lost Boys to the more dystopic visuals of the backdrop to fit with the “council estate boys" look of the models.

Additionally, to the clean makeup looks I have planned, there will be integration (slowly) of character makeup elements such as scarring and bruising to add depth to the characters to give a level of the cinematic and a harsher reality of the concept.

I am going to add extra kit soon and will release details on what goes into a lost shoot in terms of gear from the camera equipment to the makeup and brushes used which in-itself will be released as a blog or blogs.

While I appreciate this is a personal project it will be used to promote the Lost Project and give a voice to a different side of my own commercial/media background in makeup design taking a little of the narrative described above into projects that are currently being scripted with a view to building a stable of work.

Creating The Narrative

Creating The Narrative and bringing the light

Creating The Narrative and bringing the light

We are really excited about what is happening here at The Lost Project, not only have we created a whole new narrative that we and several of our clients are excited about. Which in and of itself is really good news and will with time put us in the place we want to be.

Naturally we are taking this slow and making sure that all the i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed. While there are some areas that are being discussed that will open doors and opportunities to new and established creative talent that wants to step up. We will support this but for our own projects we are going to be taking smaller steps and keeping things small with a carefully structured hand picked team of people from locations that we are familiar with and know we can trust.

With the potential avenues that are being brought into play, we are really excited about the prospect of whats coming up and will be revealing details over the coming weeks.

From fashion to film and TV, there are endless opportunities to be had, we are already seeing the potential of this and given that we want to specialise more in the film and TV sector we will only dip our collective toes into the water of fashion for that, we have some ideas that need support from designers and have already put the feelers out on that front.

Our team is pushing hard to create something special and stay within the boundaries of our remit, commercial and art can work together and we fully intend to prove it.

We are now sketching out designs to pitch to a designer for a pop up show and a PR agent is backing the plans which is fantastic news and will add an extra edge to the work coming up.

My Ideal Destination and KitKase My Ideal Package

Something I have been putting off is travelling, with various personal, professional and financial restraints on my time I really felt that it was for the best that I stick to one place and spot for a while but as you can imagine now that I am a little freer on the time front the urge to travel has started to make me feel the need to move again. Yes the weather is improving here in Scotland but I do miss South Asia and for work I am really beginning to think its time to move on.

The Road Less Travelled

What does have to do with My Ideal Destination and KitKase you ask? Well its simple. I love the level of service that the Ideal destination team brings and when it comes to luggage no one is better than KitKase to help pack my gear and take to the road again.

A major part of the appeal of My Ideal Destination is there concierge service, for those unfamiliar with this and having not travelled for business as much as I have done over the years, there are some major plus points to this (and for anyone looking to take a break), the team are focused on customer service and for me that allows my mind to be set and focused on the task at hand; locations, meetings and business.

They can and do make recommendations and if requested bookings on your behalf. As a makeup artist and writer (With producer credits coming soon) I love the A list treatment the company offers, it does make me feel like one of my idols from the Golden age of Hollywood. Making them and ideal Honeymoon agency or for that weekend getaway where you just want to be able to relax and enjoy the trip rather than worry about researching restaurants etc before you go.

As to luggage, I have to admit, KitKase is a must have for me. There cabin friendly suitcases are both eye-catching and practical with the added edge of being a Luxury travel companion. For me there is something special about the Kases that just makes them perfect for the work I am planning and how my business will change over the coming months. Not only that but as a weekend or short trip case, Kitkase is a perfect addition to your travels and high on my list of recommendations for any looking for something fun and luxurious in the same package.

Both of these companies are working on something special together which I will be talking about soon and I am really happy that I have them in my working arsenal and can talk about them.

Changing the Narrative of The Lost Project

Changing the Narrative of The Lost Project

Over the last 18 months we have worked extremely hard alongside our creative director James Clark, who has been a diligent and hardworking beauty editor for a major magazine, however that is all changing and as much as we loved what he did, it has been decided that we will do it for ourselves.

Talking to some of the agencies and brands we have worked with over the last 18 months they are coming over to the Lost Project and we will be building our network and creating online articles focusing on beauty, lifestyle and art.

Already seeing some interest, over the next month we will add new members to the online team who will work with us to create articles, making full use of social media marketing and of course working to create beautiful images with a lost project twist.

It does feel like a huge relief to know that we can finally really put the focus back on ourselves and the clients we have built a relationship with.

This change of narrative is something we are really excited about and now we will be able to grow and redefine our story.

The Lost Blog Returns

The Lost Blog

We have been sitting as a team and discussing the different elements of what we do and what we offer, fine tuning the business so to speak. One thing that came up was the website, as much as we all loved it, we felt that it made sense to reinvigorate the concept as we move into a new phase and give ourselves a fresh look to meet the changes we have planned.

Over the coming months we will be working on the plans to expand on production and print work, thanks to our creative director JamesC mua, we have access to some fantastic resources and will be making effective use of them soon. We also will be migrating all the work into one solid site and JamesC will be joining us long term with all his work being showcased here on the Lost Project website.

Something that has been on our mind is we want to create more work of our own and we are aiming to have at least two festival pieces in play and then start on our internet TV plans with the TV Series script earmarked already with our plan being to integrate in one of our Bollywood contacts for the lead role.

A host of new images will also be shot to fill out the website with JamesC taking the lead, naturally as creative director, giving him the chance to spread his wings a little as in-house makeup designer and photographer.

Overall, we are excited about the prospects of the new year and will be making waves with our work and direction.
